Kentucky's Packhorse Peggy Delivering Stories One Trail at a Time by Lisa Boeglin and Kristi Valiant (Illustrator)

Rated: 5 star rating

I just finished reading Kentucky's Packhorse Peggy: Delivering Stories One Trail at a Time by Lisa Boeglin, and it is such a sweet story. It takes place back in 1935 during the Great Depression and follows a young woman named Peggy. She gets a job as a packhorse librarian, which means she rides around on her horse, Tucker, to bring books to people living way out in the mountains who can't get to a town.

Peggy and Tucker go through some really tough weather like ice and heavy rain, but they don't give up. The families she visits are so grateful for the reading material that they give her little things in return, like old recipes, quilt patterns and stories. Peggy keeps everything in a scrapbook, which is a great way to remember how the community stuck together during hard times.

The illustrations by Kristi Valiant are also amazing and show what life looked like back then. It is just a really nice, clean book about how books can bring people together when life is hard. I highly recommend it if you like historical stories or just want something uplifting to read.

Thank you, NetGalley, Solander Press, and author Lisa Boeglin, and Kristi Valiant, Illustrator, for providing me with a copy of this ebook review consideration. All review opinions are my own.
