Merciful Salvation A Viking Historical Romance by Violetta Rand

Rating:  4

Great author, but too much spice for my taste

I read Merciful Salvation by Violetta Rand and the author did a great job writing this book.  It is a Viking historical romance about a Scottish warrior named Aaron McNally who lost his honor back home and had to start over in Norway.  He works hard to become a respected fighter for the king, but then he meets a noblewoman named Kara Dalgaard.  Kara's family tries to trick and embarrass Aaron, and even though Kara feels bad about it, the whole mess forces them to spend a lot of time together. They start falling for each other, but Aaron is worried  over losing his hard earned reputation, and Kara is stuck dealing with her family's drama.  By the end, they have to face all the secrets and lies to finally be together.

The story is very good, but I really wish there were no spicy and sexual moments in it. If it was a clean story, I definitely would have enjoyed it a lot more. However, the author still did an amazing job with the actual plot and character growth. Aaron is that classic brooding, tough guy who is secretly super protective, and Kara is really strong willed instead of just being a helpless female. The historical setting feels very realistic. It is a really well written book, just keep the romance content warning in mind if you prefer strictly clean reads.

Trigger Warnings:

Violence and Warfare

Shaming and Emotional Manipulation

Explicit Sexual Content
