Beneath the Swirling Sky
by Carolyn Leiloglou
Rating: 5 star rating
I liked Beneath the Swirling Sky. It’s a fun fantasy book that’s kind of different because it mixes art with magic. The main kid is Vincent, and he doesn’t even like art anymore at the start. He feels kind of stuck and unsure of himself.
Then his little sister Lili disappears into a painting, and everything changes. Vincent finds out his family can actually go inside paintings, like famous artwork, and there are good and bad groups trying to control that world. He teams up with his cousin Georgia, and they go into different paintings, trying to find Lili and figure things out.
The author makes the paintings feel alive. It’s not boring or kidish. It’s more like an adventure where each painting is its own world. Vincent grows a lot through the story, and Georgia is smart and brave and keeps things moving when Vincent gets nervous.
The story is easy to follow, with a lot of action and mystery. The ending wraps up the main problem but still leaves you thinking there’s more to come. Overall, it’s a creative and fun read if you like magic, adventure, and stories that use art and fantasy in an adventurous way.
Thank you, NetGalley, WaterBrook & Multnomah, and the author Carolyn Leiloglou for the book review consideration. All opinions are my own.
