Her Silence by S. T. Ashman

Rating: 4 star rating

I just finished Her Silence by S. T. Ashman and It was one big surprise. The story starts years ago with Nicole as a teenage single mom building an unbreakable bond with her baby girl, Lacey.

Years later, while baby sitting her grandchildren, Nicole gets a hurried phone call from Brian, her son-in-law telling her to get to the hospital. Lacey is found covered in blood in the woods next to her best friend's stabbed husband. The shock leaves Lacey completely mute, so the local police instantly lock her up and call it a day.

Nicole refuses to believe her daughter is a killer. She steps in to be Lacey's voice and launches her own investigation, hunting for clues and digging up dark political and family secrets to find the truth. The assigned detective steps in behind the scenes to try and help the family find real justice.

At the same time, Lacey's 16-year-old son, Dylan, steps up to keep the family together. He is a patient, loyal kid who takes after his grandmother. Nicole starts investigating things, and after asking the tough questions, everyone else missed. There is more that happens years later, but I will stop, so there are no spoilers. Great read.

The author keeps changing perspectives between the family members. It is a perfect mix of family drama and a fast-paced thriller. You think you have it figured out, and then a complete twist in the last thirty pages completely drops your jaw.

I recommend it, but you may need to skip some parts. For those that need warnings, there is mention of sexual prostitution with bjs, violence with stabbing, and some cursing.
