The Girl on the Bathroom Floor Held Together When Everything is Falling Apart by Amber Emily Smith author and narrator.

Rating: 5 star rating

I just finished listening to the audiobook The Girl on the Bathroom Floor by Amber Emily Smith, and it was an astoundingly wonderful listen. Amber, the wife of former country singer Granger Smith, shares the honest truth about losing their three year old son, River, to an accidental drowning. This tragedy gave the book its title, representing the physical space where she collapsed in total despair and grief. However, the bathroom floor wasn't the only place she expressed her grief; her heartbreak spilled over into her everyday spaces like her car and her closet, too.

Because the memories at their old house were too painful, the family decided to pack up and leave. They ended up living in an RV while waiting to build a new house, which added stress to an already difficult situation. They almost didn't get to buy the land at all because COVID-19 hit right in the middle of everything, but Amber personally managed to talk the realtor into finalizing the sale anyway.

Amber narrates the audiobook herself, and hearing emotion in her voice makes it personal. She avoids easy answers or toxic positivity. She shares how separating her identity from her trauma, helped her deal with it better. Also, she explained how faith allowed grief and joy to coexist. I felt this was smooth audiobook experience, and I definitely recommend this listen.

Thank you, NetGalley, W Publishing Audiobooks, and author and narrator Amber Emily Smith, for providing me with a copy of this free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
