Hope Is Life's Treasure and Other Poems by Daisaku Ikeda, author with Orlando Bloom, narrator

Rating: 5 star rating

I absolutely love this poetry collection. I just finished listening to the audiobook of Hope Is Life’s Treasure and Other Poems by Daisaku Ikeda, and I had to share how incredible it is. It features twenty-two philosophical poems that take you on a journey through resilience, mentorship, and finding light in dark times, emotional at times, with mentions of war and loss of freedom.

Orlando Bloom’s narration is completely stunning. His voice is so soothing, grounded, and sincere. His calm pacing perfectly matches the natural flow of the translated poetry, giving the words room to breathe. He shifts from quiet nostalgic memories, to a powerful passionate tone, when urging the younger generation to stand up for peace. There is even message at the end where he shares what these poems mean to him personally.

The poems pull from Ikeda's earlier works like Journey of Life and The Sun of Youth, creating a wonderful flow that lifts you out of everyday stress. The opening track, "Morigasaki Beach," sets a peaceful mood. The verses celebrate real historical figures who stood up against massive hardships, like Ikeda's mentors Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Josei Toda, along with icons like Cicero and Beethoven.

It runs just under four hours and ends with a moment of optimism. It left me feeling inspired and full of hope. I highly recommend it if you need a little extra peace and encouragement right now.
